Blackburn have an opportunity to move back into an automatic promotion spot on Tuesday, provided all three points, which wasn’t managed against Northampton, are secured against Walsall – a win could close the gap on League One leaders Wigan too should they slip up at Rochdale.

Walsall, above Northampton on goal difference alone – with both outside of the bottom four – basically come to Ewood Park with little to lose and all to gain. However, Tony Mowbray is hopeful the frustration of the Cobblers game can be taken forward against the Saddlers.

He told the Official Website: ‘The frustration of Saturday is already gone and we’re looking forward to Walsall now. Every time you drop points, it gives teams a lift and an incentive. We can only impact the games we play in so we have to get three points every week.’

Ok, this is a game Blackburn would be anticipated to win, in fact most would expect this with the unbeaten run extended with another victory.

The boss isn’t taking Walsall lightly though and knows, from studying them, what threats they pose.

Mowbray added: ‘Walsall haven’t played for 10 days and will be prepared for the game. They will be organised and we’ll be playing the best Walsall side that they can get. Walsall when at their best are a match for anyone. They have had some inconsistencies this season and have had loan players that have gone back. I’ve studied their last few games and they have some talented players and some obvious threats.’

He finished by looking at Erhun Oztumer as being ‘a technician’ and ‘someone who can unlock doors’ so knows we’ll ‘have to be mindful’ of him and saying how we’re ‘looking forward’ to this game.
