Martin Olsson thinks that Paul Ince lacked the experience and the know how to get the best from Blackburn Rovers.

The main concern amongst the squad was a lack of confidence but now the Sweden Under 21 International feels that Rovers now have the man to steer us to the safety we all crave.

Olsson, speaking to Sky Sports News, clarified – ‘He (Ince) tried his best but when he was here we were low on confidence,’

‘Since Sam came in we have been working hard in training and we know we can get out of the bottom three, it will just take a bit of time.

‘We work as a team, not individuals. There is more communication and that helps a lot on the pitch.

‘Sam has been in the Premier League for a long time compared to Paul Ince. Ince needed to learn more because he was new to the game.

‘Sam knows what he is doing and that is why I’m not bothered if I’m not playing because I’ll just learn what others are doing on the pitch.

‘I think our confidence has gone much higher than when Ince was here.’

Olsson is back from illness and due a run in the team, with the Swede tipped to get a go against Coventry in the Cup. But dreams of glory are secondary to Olsson’s desire to stay in the Premier League.

‘I’ve been out with injury and viruses but if I get my chance I’ll do my best,’

‘I saw a bit of the last game (against Coventry) and in the second half they were good.

‘We have to be focused and start playing how we can and I think we will be fine. We are playing good football when we are playing together.

‘We know we are good as a team and we know we can beat Coventry even if we don’t have the strongest squad.

‘If he (Allardyce) plays the young ones or the ones who don’t play every week, then the others can think about the Premier League games.

‘It is important game because we want to get to Wembley but the Premier League is more important and we have to focus on that.’

  • Personally I’m not sure we need to be going over the old Ince ground again, however, if it makes Olsson feel better then why not. The Swede must now show what he can do on the pitch to back it up. In many ways Olsson is biting the hand that fed him as Incey did use him didn’t he, and Big Sam might not? Without doubt in hindsight the appointment of Incey wasn’t the right one though was it, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  • I think he has been out injured for a while but Olsson will have a job on his hands to get a regular spot with Givet seemingly of a good standard as well. And as you say boss, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  • Ive said it before and il say it again, the players should be the last ones to comment on their previous manager, they should be as acountable for results as the manager was, and if i recall, Olsson had a fair few shocking games….

  • I agree Sas – Olsson was hardly man of the match when he played for us, and it’s easy to blame someone who has left the club.

  • I think the players should be held responsible for the results as well but lets face rit – the buck always stops with the manager first and foremost.

  • i agree with friedel ollson put some shocking displayts in and he should be grateful to ince for giving him so many games, never kick a dog while its down!!

  • DOnt get me wrong Mikey, i rate olsson, he is one for the future, but he did have a few shockers, including conceding a few goals and that red card.

  • Olsson shouldn’t be coming out with this kind of thing. There’s no need to put the studs in on Ince and tbh he doesn’t cut it yet. His performance against Spuds was probably the worst of any Rovers player this season. I don’t know how he played last night, but whenever I hear his name on the team sheet, it strikes fear into my heart.

  • I’m glad to see that plenty are also in agreement that Olsson didn’t need to /shouldn’t have said this. Do your talking on the field my young Swedish friend, you have the ability now prove you have the talent and don’t try sucking up to Big Sam to get this chance. Trust me dude he’s been around the game FAR to long to fall for that one!!!
