Blackburn this week completed the permanent signing of Paul Downing and brought in Adam Armstrong on loan.

Downing, 26, signed on a season-long loan from MK Dons during the summer transfer window, made his switch to Ewood Park a permanent one when signing for an undisclosed fee.

The defender – who has previous with Tony Mowbray at West Brom – will remain with Blackburn until the summer of 2019. In Downing’s 18 appearances for Rovers the club are yet to suffer defeat, winning 12 and drawing the remaining six.

Having spent the first half of the campaign with our bitter rivals Bolton, Armstrong has come to Ewood in a loan capacity from Premier League side Newcastle until the end of the season.

Armstrong, 20, didn’t have the success at the Macron Stadium he had at Coventry previously – where he too played under Mowbray – scoring 20 goals and making it into the League One Team of the Year, but all being well the forward can recapture his best form at this level under a familiar boss.
