Blackburn Rovers’ management and coaching staff (along with us the fans) must be bracing themselves for the news that Jason Roberts will miss the remainder of the season???

The forward picked up a foot injury (which is understood to be a metatarsal break) early in the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Ewood Park on Saturday. Although Roberts managed to make it through until half time he then had to be taken off and will now undergo a scan to determine the full extent of the injury, but it is something that has everyone concerned.

Roberts told Radio Rovers: “I’ve got a bit of a problem with my foot but I don’t know exactly what it is so I’ll need to go for a scan.

“I felt it after 20 minutes, and in the end I had to come off. It may keep me out but we’ll have an MRI scan and see.

A broken metatarsal would almost certainly sideline JR for the season, and with Matt Derbyshire on loan in Greece, Roque Santa Cruz having been troubled by injuries all season and Benni McCarthy not always in Sam Allardyce’s good books amid concerns over his own fitness levels we could be VERY short of attacking options for the run-in. Christopher Samba could be deployed as a striker a few more times this season then!!!

  • I really think that with Morten and Jason out at anfield Carlos should be given a chance as it seems he is clearly better than keith Treacy…

  • Yeah line up 4-5-1 i think shame this, wish Derbyshire had stayed now, he is banging them in for olympiakos but good news grella is in reserve team.

  • Been reported that he will only be out for 3 weeks so not too bad with an fa cup weekend soon. Excellent chance to play Carlos in behind Benni in the next 2 games. Still no news on Morten

  • I predict an approximately 0% chance that Big Sam will play Carlos off the striker…. I desperately want an Olympiakos Derbyshire shirt with Derbyshire written in Greek.

  • carlos has to play end of, liverpool game would suit as they often sit back which would allow him some more space tow work his magic

  • Still think Big Sam will let Derbs go this summer, I hope not. So its three-weeks for JR, not as bad as first thought but not ideal and proves just how valuable Derbs would’ve been now!!!
