After weeks of speculation surrounding Roque Santa Cruz, and a will he won’t he move to Blackburn Rovers, he HAS completed his switch to Ewood Park.

The amount he has moved for is an undisclosed amount, but it is understood that Rovers have paid something in the region of £5 million for the 25-year-old Paraguayan International striker, who has signed a four-year contract.

With Bayern Munich signing strikers over the summer his chances would have been slim with the German Giants, so it was agreed that it was time for him to move on, and Rovers have won the race to sign the further striker Mark Hughes had been looking for all summer.

Santa Cruz is a world-class performer, who although untested in the Premier League will fit in superbly with the other strikers at Ewood, which leaves Hughes with a glittering array of striking talent to select from. Also signing a four-year contract means Rovers SHOULD yet see the best years of his career.

  • I can’t change my tune now that he has arrived, as I personally didn’t think we needed another striker. However, I always said that if Sparky was insistent on brining another in then Santa Cruz would be me pick.
ALSO, let us not forget “in Sparky we trust!!!”
He is a great signing and leaves Rovers looking AMAZINGLY strong in attack, as well as other areas of the squad now, defenders beware!!!

  • Yes YesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYes

  • A great addition to our squad- but who would he replace??? Less time for Gallagher to show his talent, or perhaps one of the others leaving??

  • still would have preferred to see a defender but if its a stirker we need then sparky knows best lookin forward to seeing him in action should add a bit of quality

  • You are VERY HAPPY dude from the sounds of it LOL!
Benni, JR, Derbs and obviously Rigters (as he has just arrived) are going nowhere. We have to remember that Benni & JR are not exactly young though are they, so Derbs, Rigters and Santa Cruz are the future, so could still learn from Benni & JR couldn’t they, even Santa Cruz who is a world-class footballer<

Jeffers is a gonner now, I bet he wishes he had left for Ipswich now!!! I still hope Gally stays, as he too is still young enough to play his part, if he wants to?!?!

  • durks de rover – The only defender we would have needed really would have been a right-back, but I still think we don’t need one! I also thought we didn’t need a striker, but we can’t complain at a striker of Santa Cruz’s quality can we.

  • But then we still have Emerton, who will have another year to perfect the art with Eddie Nolan a year on with his progression.

  • You can’t really see any other option for Jeffers but to leave now really can you?!?! He must so be wishing he had gone to Ipswich when he had the chance!

  • The chap who wrote it covered the German league for the Guardian and put Santa Cruz down as his worst player of the season “Dangerous like a toothless tigress, pacy like a Fiat Punto with flat tyres, strong-willed and powerful like a stoned earthworm.”

  • The younger Rovers’ fans are going to love having SANTA cruz on their team… everybody loves SANTA (grinches excluded)!

  • if we only got him for 3.8 ill it is a good deal but i think with him we need to go to a 4-3-3 formation

  • Absolutely estatic, for the first time in a few years, we have a variety of options in the front line, Sparky, you genius, any1 know where we can c highlights of last nights game, couldnt get a stream of it

  • HDM if you look at the options we have up front its clear to see that we have strength in depth but i dont think we have too much of that in defence! dont get me wrong our first four or five choices are quality but if you look at last season a few injuries and we are limited in defence! nolan is untried on a consistent basis and im not a big fan of the monk he is a squad player i would have liked to see a versatile defender i have no names to put to you but im sure saprky could find someone

  • Derbyshire4England, where on earth do you get your info from? I swear you just make it up half the time.

For me this is a GREAT signing, giving Rovers a wealth of attacking options. Plus a good number of them are real impact players that can create from nothing.

  • I think this could be a good bit of business Hughes can mould Roque into a Top Quality player the one he should of been in Germany but wasn’t, good work yesterday from the Rovers!!!

  • Derbyshire4England – If santa Cruz is getting paid 50 grand a week dude there is NO WAY he would be playing at Ewood Park!!!
durks de rover – You make a fair point, but I still think we have enough at the back, and this season SHOULD be used as one to help Eddie Nolan along with his progression, so he is ready in a year or so’s time to step up to the plate regularly.

  • This is good news, was a bit sceptical at first but Hughes was right – we did miss that Aerial threat last season and now we have it and we WILL be better off with it.
