Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz is hoping to vanish the 5-3 defeat against Wigan Athletic on Saturday from the memories by helping Rovers into the Carling Cup Semi Finals.

Rovers take on Arsenal in Tuesday Evenings Quarter Final and Santa Cruz is desperate for a Rovers to bounce back (there is that saying ONCE again, a saying we have heard FAR too much recently) and win to maintain the chance of picking up some silverware this season, and with it a place in Europe again next season.

Santa Cruz told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It is a huge game for everyone because we want to have the chance to win a cup, so the Carling Cup and the FA Cup are tournaments where we want to do our best.

“We must do anything we can to get to the final

Despite his hat trick against Wigan (which saw him become the first player in 11-years to score a hat trick but still end on the losing side, the last being Dwight Yorke in a 4-3 defeat to Newcastle Untied in 1996 when he played for Aston Villa) he still ended on the losing side, this obviously disappointed him, but not as much as the defeat itself, especially with all the mistakes that we made.

The Paraguayan International added: “It was very disappointing to lose, especially after scoring the three goals.

“We made too many mistakes and didn’t give ourselves the chance to really put ourselves on the front foot.

“Even when we are not playing well, we have to be strong to make sure we get a result

A win might not exactly be a must, but defeat would see another possible route into European competition next season slammed shut.

  • Arsenal WILL BE a very, very tough opponent as their ?Young Gunners? are as good as almost anyway. The REAL Rovers MUST turn up on Tuesday (with A LOT of help from Santa!) if we have any chance of progressing, if we can then we have a GREAT chance of going all the way.

  • I think we will lose (Arsenal) because we wipp play the youngest Arsenal team in the history of the Universe. Only Van Persie, Fabianski and Eduardo will be above 20.

  • This is a big test for you boys, only two full days off and you have to face our fresh legged speedy little whippersnappers!

  • Its going to be a good game, coz I expect Blackburn to name a full strength side. This is a good chance for Blackburn to progress further, coz you have given our 1st team a run for their money. Expect a tough fight from the Arsenal kids though.

  • Fabianski; Hoyte, Song, Senderos, Traore; Denilson, Diarra, Diaby; Walcott, Bendtner, Eduardo; Subs: Szezezezezezneeey, G Hoyte, Gibbs, Lansbuty, Barazite, Van Persie

  • Van Persie is going to start, I hear. That has to have the Ewood faithful worried considering his record versus you lot, right?

  • I have been looking forward to this match since it was announced – I was confident back then that we would win as we were on a good run – I still think we will win and win well. Come on you Rovers!

  • If we win, I will show my ar$e in the steps of the Vatincan. I predict a 4 or 5-0 scoreline to Arsenal. However, 2 or 3 of the goals (depending on the scoreline) will be in the last 5 minutes, when we push forward to try and salvage something from the game. The scoreline will flatter Arsenal, but a loss all the same. I apologise for the pessimism, but I can’t see us getting anything.

  • Come on the boys. This is where we turn our season around. A promising start has been compromised by some shoddy recent displays but hera is where we raise our game! I’m looking forward to a good game between us again!

  • DP – With your suggested image in mind, I don’t know if I want rovers to win anymore! – just kidding, it’ll be worth it!

  • Decimus Poole – I’m looking forward to seeing this, a chance has come up for the youngster I hope he gets it and I hope he takes it, could this be the opening he has been waiting for?!?!

  • My concern for this match is Arsenal will be fresh, with younger players, but I still think we can just about edge it as the hunger (we might NEED to win this Cup to get into Europe again next year!) SHOULD be there.

  • He tried his best again, but it just wasn’t enough! How *****ed off must he feel, a hat trick in one game, two in the next and still he loses both times!!!
