Mark Hughes was forced to praise the defences of both Manchester City and Blackburn after the two teams played out their fourth successive draw at the weekend.

He said: ‘I thought in the first half we were excellent. I thought we bossed the game and had plenty of possession without creating anything of note in the final third. In the second half I thought it was a little bit more even and they came into it somewhat but I thought it was a game where both sets of defenders were on top. I thought both back fours played excellently.’

You have to go back to the start of the 2003 season for a win in this fixture with Man City beating Blackburn 3-2 at Ewood Park.

This week neither team could even separate themselves by shots on target, 4-4, or corners won, also 4 each. However City did enjoy the lions share of possession at the City of Manchester Stadium with 57% of the ball.
