The (Not So) Beautiful Game!!

Most of the VBers (Vital Blackburners. Do we still use that term on here??) on this website these days won’t be familiar with my name I wouldn’t have thought?? I’m a former Editor of Vital Blackburn, however I stepped aside a good few years ago for Mikey to take the reins and that proved to be the right call as he took the website to a new level. Unfortunately the clowns in the boardroom have conspired to make all that hard work and effort all the more difficult to sustain as these actions have resulted in a drop of interest from many as a result, even so Vital Blackburn continues to look strong enough from my more distant view these days. Going back to my editorial name, it should be familiar to many of you from the statistics that I produce following a Blackburn Rovers game. All that said that of course depends on how much notice you take to the writer!!

A major factor in my stepping aside when I did was an inability to have the time required to dedicate to this website as my working and family situation changed, this is as busy and hectic as ever and it’s unlikely I will be making much of a return but sincerely hope to be able to write a little bit more from this point on, the statistics are most certainly something I will keep going if nothing else.

Since my decision to move aside this Football Club have lurched from one crisis to another, actually I would say one embarrassment to another would be more fitting!! We’ve long ago become a laughing stock with some farcical ownership that has continued to strip this Football Club of so many of it’s highly regarded values, this ownership has little to no interest in our well being and like so many overseas owners these days has motives best suited to themselves. I’m not naïve enough to think that football is what it used to be, it’s become a business and the likes of the Legendary Uncle Jack (Walker) that did it for the love of the club are long since gone. As the Premiership grew it brought in a whole new type of owner, an owner that sees the £ signs and often view the ownership of a Football Club as a means of making a quick, and easy, buck as well as some sort of status badge. Sometimes this quick buck way of thinking proves more difficult for them to make than others but generally if they do it right, and this is often at the expense of a club (just look at the number of Football Clubs getting into trouble and many constantly changing hands) they end up laughing with us the supporters’ left crying.

First and foremost a lack of time personally makes things difficult for me but with owners like we have with actions that they’ve carried out it does little to enhance my enthusiasm for the beautiful game (which isn’t that beautiful anymore for me!!), I literally know little about this Football Club anymore as I’ve found it increasingly difficult to look at is as my Football Club anymore and therefore take much notice, it’s a shadow of the one it was that I fell in love with. The same goes for football itself. Times change and I can accept this but football is more about money, greed and selfishness these days it barely resembles the one that I grew to love as a child.

It’s not just the owners of Football Clubs it’s often those that represent it as far as players go that add to my inclination to turn me off. Obviously back in my youthful day these players weren’t always exactly role models and some almost certainly went about their lives in a way that was wrong but I’d imagine they were far more in a minority and not the majority of spoilt, overpaid brat like children that they are now with them mostly putting themselves onto a pedestal they’ve no right to be on!! Far too many of the modern day era footballer have no regard to the Football Club that they represent and no feeling whatsoever to the Supporters’ they play for, they’re also motivated by what you put into their account. I’m also not naïve enough to think that a human wouldn’t want more, but there’s a right and wrong way to go about things and isn’t hard to show a bit of respect!!

It seems that I’m able to bring myself back to writing for this website from time to time for a bit of a rant and even though this might have rambled on a bit I’ve tried to curtail it as much as possible but it’s from the heart and I’d hope basically offers up a bit of an idea of where I am with Blackburn Rovers Football Club and football in general, however I’m still around!! If nothing else I’ll keep my statistics going through the season coming up and try to get a few comments made on the articles that others produce as well as look to chip in a few of my own, with them hopefully of a more positive note as I get back to enjoying following Rovers again and football in general, however (and sorry to end on a sour note) I’d not be holding my breath as to this likely to be what the case will be, but we can live in hope!!
