Craig Bellamy has been named in Wales squad for the friendly against Cyprus next Wednesday. The hot shot, who – despite missing games due to injury – has six goals in nine matches for Blackburn.

Wales have failed to qualify for the World Cup but Rovers duo Brett Emerton and Lucas Neill are still in contention. The pair are preparing for Australia’s play off matches against Uruguay.

Emerton, who has scored four goals for the Aussies, said: ‘I’m looking forward to it very much. They’re huge games for us and very important. Australia haven’t qualified for the World Cup for a long time now and so it’s going to be tough. Obviously Uruguay are tough opponents, but we feel as though we have a strong team and we’re quietly confident we can go there and do the job.’

Adding, on the official site: ‘To qualify would be massive. Personally, for myself, I’ve always dreamed of playing in a World Cup and so that would be a great achievement for me, but also for football back home in Australia. I think it’s slowly starting to make a name for itself, obviously they have to compete with all the other sports, but with the beginning of the new league now, which is doing exceptionally well, if the national team can qualify for the World Cup I think football in Australia is going to kick on in leaps and bounds.’
