After a successful operation yesterday it was confirmed that Andre Ooijer will play no further part in Rovers` season.
Ooijer fell awkwardly with Man City striker Bernard Corradi who collapsed on Ooijer`s leg, breaking the fibula and tearing ligaments during Rovers` 3-0 win.
It is a shame because the experienced Dutchman has been improving with every game and made himself a permanent fixture in the starting line-up. His leadership and experience has shone through in a number of games when he has put in some sterling displays.
Mark Hughes expressed his disappointment at the unfortunate injury on the club website, saying:
“It is a blow to us all, we are all disappointed for Andre, he`s had a real influence on and off the field for the squad. He brought the winning mentality to the club that I hoped he would bring as he`s a guy with great experience.
“But we`ll be without him but the good news is that the operation went well, there were no complications and once his body heals he will be back.“
Andre`s father-in-law and representative, Willy van de Kerkhof, also spoke of the Dutchman`s disappointment. He told Sport 1,
“I spoke with Andre on the phone and he was very down, although this injury will not mean the end of his career.“
It is a huge blow to lose such an in-form player and player of vast experience at this stage of the season. However, everyone wishes Andre all the best and a full and speedy recovery.
