Blackburn’s recovery from a poor start to the season continued with a fourth successive win secured when Rovers came away from Scunthorpe with a 1-0 win on Tuesday.
Scunthorpe had plenty of chances with David Raya doing well to save from the likes of Paddy Madden and Duane Holmes, as well as former Blackburn midfielder Josh Morris on more than one occasion.
However, the winner came just ahead of the hour when Marcus Antonsson, having also scored in the weekend win at Rochdale, turned in an Elliott Bennett cross – Rovers were ensured of the win when Neal Bishop’s late header was cleared off the line.
Tony Mowbray knows Scunthorpe are a good side and caused plenty of problems but Blackburn had chances too and was always hopeful the quality we have would shine through.
He told the Official Website: ‘I was really delighted with the points. It was a tough game tonight, we played against a really good side, they gave us problems in the first half and yet we did create a few chances.’
Adding: ‘I felt we could always score a goal. They were on top, they were dominating possession, and coming in waves of attack. But every now and then there’d be a counter-attack where it looked like we were going to score because we have quality at the top end of the pitch. Thankfully Elliott has put a brilliant ball in and Marcus has finished it.’
The boss went on to say he thought we could ‘have scored one or two more’ with the win at Glanford Park something Mowbray doesn’t expect too many visiting clubs to manage.
Now focus turns to AFC Wimbledon’s visit to Ewood Park, after successive away games, on Saturday, we’ll take these points and move on.
Mowbray finished: ‘We’ll take the points, we’ll put it in the bag and move onto the next game.’
