Rovers are going to be up one important player from here on in with Leon Best now back in the fold. That’s the opinion of Rovers boss Michael Appleton.

Best made his long awaited debut as a sub in the 1-0 defeat to Bolton on Tuesday night but with the FA Cup Quarter Final against Millwall looming large on Sunday the chance is there for Best to be pushing for a starting spot.

Appleton told the Lancashire Telegraph – “You look at the situation we are in, in terms of people being cup-tied for the weekend, and it is one of them. I have no doubts whatsoever he will be banging on my door, trying to get a place in the starting line up.

“Obviously that is a decision between myself and the staff. If it is right to start him and he is up for it and ready for it then we will do.

“If not, then it will be a gradual thing from our point of view.”

With DJ Campbell, Dave Jones and Cameron Stewart all cup tied the opportunity is there for others to stake a claim for a starting berth on Sunday – and Nuno Gomes out of favour Best may be seeing more action than he thought, sooner than he thought.
