Rovers manager Gary Bowyer left Ewood Park a happy man, after seeing his Rovers side take home all 3 points in a 2-0 win over Blackpool on Saturday afternoon.

Blackpool, something of a wounded animal after a dreadful run of form and the sacking of Paul Ince, came and competed but offered very little quality which meant it was up to Rovers to provide the games moment’s of decisive action – something the home side provided sporadically, if not consistently enough.

David Dunn was the chief orchestrator, with the hometown favourite getting opening the goal account with a fine individual goal. But competent and energetic performances were also provided by the likes of Tom Cairney, Todd Kane, Jason Lowe and Mat Kilgallon, with the win merited. if not as emphatic as it potentially should have been.

“It was important that we turned our performances into wins and we`re delighted that we`ve done that,’ Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“I thought it was a very professional job. It was a tough game and Barry Ferguson`s got them fighting for their lives and it took a bit of brilliance from Dunny to unlock them.

“We felt we should have been more up with the possession we had in the first half and been more clinical again.

“That gives us something to work on but in terms of the performance, it was very professional.”

The day also proved something of a landmark for Grant Hanley, who capped off being named the new club captain with a goal to settle a reasonably comfortable 2-0 win.

Rovers are next in action on Saturday, as they face Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium in the North East.
