Bowyer: I Am Majorly Disappointed

Losing to lower league opponents isn’t new to Blackburn Rovers is it!! This has happened regularly in the League Cup with Shrewsbury Town our latest conquerors when they won 2-1 at Ewood Park on Tuesday evening.

Gary Bowyer, much like the Blackburn support at Ewood, wasn’t happy with the performance or the defending that left him majorly disappointed following the Capital One Cup exit in the First Round.

The Rovers Manager told Radio Rovers: “We spoke about wanting to get through and that was the message to the players before we went out, but we’ve undone ourselves with the sloppy goals that we have conceded. The standard of the goals was shocking tonight.

“That performance was not what we expect from a Blackburn Rovers team, we were not bad but the goals we conceded were unacceptable.“

James Collins got the SkyBet League 1 side off to a flying start with his early goal as he profited on a Ryan Nyambe error, however, the young defender provided the cross that saw Liam Lawrence score the own goal for us to get level. Tyrone Barnett’s goal no sooner had the celebrations ended won it for the Shrews though.

Bowyer said that some given a chance with a start in this match didn’t take it so he’ll again make changes when it comes to the team to face Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

He added: “The feeling is one of huge disappointment. You give people opportunities and some people will take those chances and some don’t.

“It makes it a little bit easier for you when you are picking the team for Saturday at Huddersfield.“

It’s slightly difficult for me to comment as an exile (who didn’t see the match), however, I’m sorry GB but it’s you that selects the side and if that, or the performance, isn’t good enough then as much as you don’t influence what the players do (to a degree) you’re still accountable for it.

Select the players (the strongest XI) that will do the job and stick with it, which (as easy as it is to be a fan from the stands) it doesn’t seem you are and it also seems we’re hearing (much like last season) the same thoughts from you following defeat aren’t we!!
