Bowyer on Dunn and Rhodes

Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has given his thoughts on the futures of two of Rovers main stalwarts with both David Dunn’s and Jordan Rhodes’s immediate futures in doubt.

Dunn is out of contract this summer but has been in discussions over a new deal for the best part of a month with both sides hopeful of reaching an agreement.

The boss Gary Bowyer has thrown his weight behind fresh terms for a man who has cumulatively played in the Rovers first team for over a decade.

‘I hope we’re very, very close. It’s been well documented my thoughts on David Dunn and what I think of him and what he means to this club,’ Bowyer told BBC Sport.

‘You need people that care and are passionate about the club for it to be successful in my opinion, all the great clubs have them.

‘I think it’s important we get him here for another year because he’s valuable in the dressing room as well.’

On the matter of Jordan Rhodes, Bowyer has again stressed that holding onto the club’s top scorer could be crucial and that no pressure has been put on himself and the club to flog the former Huddersfield hitman.

‘From conversations with the owners they categorically told me that Jordan Rhodes wasn’t for sale, and I’m led to believe that,’ he continued.

‘I’ve not been told I’ve got to sell anybody, but that said I’m not daft if someone offered me the chance tomorrow to be a coach at Manchester United it’s human nature that you take it generally.’

With the likes of Hull, Celtic and Cardiff all credited with an interest Rovers will face a fight to hold onto him.
