Bowyer: Take It On The Chin And Learn From It

Blackburn Rovers have scored quite a few dramatic late goals this season, however, it was Sheffield Wednesday doing this against us on Saturday afternoon as they ended our unbeaten run.

Gary Bowyer didn’t think that the match at Ewood Park was “particularly good” with neither side showing too much quality. Conceding an early goal (maybe Bowyer should’ve stuck with Simon Eastwood instead of bringing back Jason Steele??) was a blow when Kieran Lee scored but we reacted quickly and Alex Baptiste’s goal looked good enough for a point at Ewood Park.

Sheffield Wednesday won it 2-1 deep into injury-time when Claude Dielna struck the winner with virtually the last kick to inflict on us something we’ve done to others a few times in The Championship this season, however, our conceding late on (like we scored at Middlesbrough in the match before) cost us the match on this occasion.

Bowyer told Radio Rovers “We did it last week at Middlesbrough. So it isn’t nice.

“I didn’t think it was a particularly good game from both teams, I think the goals probably matched the quality of the game if I’m being honest.

If you’ve got a match when one or two aren’t quite at the standards set recently then you can sometimes cope, however, when several are “below par” this isn’t going to help at all and Bowyer believes this was the case with Rovers against The Owls but the best thing we can do from this is to learn from it and come back stronger.

He added: “Today it looked like there were too many not at it compared to the standards that they’ve set, so it is one that we have to take on the chin.

“I think it is an example of the Championship, anybody can beat anybody, and you have to turn up on the day. On this occasion we didn’t, we didn’t play particularly well.

“We were below par, we know that, we have to take it on the chin and learn from it.

Ideally we wanted to go into the Christmas period with an unbeaten run intact to keep us in the play-off positions, this isn’t going to be the case with this current run but we’ve got to now look to get another one going and that starts at Griffin Park against Brentford (who also lost a good run of form) on Saturday.

We’ve not got too much time to feel sorry for ourselves, so let’s not do this!!
