The last few hours of the transfer window saw Rovers fend off late bids for most of their big names and retain the services of the likes of Chris Samba, Martin Olsson and Junior Hoilett but at a very late hour it came to light that Ryan Nelsen was on his way to the very surprise destination of Spurs.

The Rovers board concluded negotiations with Nelsen to allow him to terminate his contract and hook up with former Rover Brad Friedel.

Nelsen has now left the club after seven years at Ewood Park and on a free agent switch.

Rovers did manage to make two signings yesetrday with the expected signing of Martin Olsson’s twin brother Marcus and right back Bradley Orr.

Orr himself seemed delighted at the switch when speaking to the Official Website – ‘I’m just really happy, it has been a long time coming, I’m so excited, I’m really buzzing at the minute.

‘I’ve wanted this move so bad, I’m just so delighted it has been done, I’m now chomping at the bit to get started.

‘When you look around the squad it is such a talented squad with a mixture of experience and youth and I want to stamp my authority on the Premier League and do as good a job for Blackburn Rovers as I can.

‘The set up is different class and I’m just really looking forward to it.’

Keith Andrews also departed last night for a nominal fee to West Brom to end his stay at the club.

From Venky’s point of view it is job done. Wages are down month by month significantly having got rid of some fringe playing high earners and with low cost replacements in place.

From the fans point of view though the window marks a frustrating period of time as three signings were made but none of them actually cost any money and the £5 million promised per window by the owners upon purchase of the club didn’t materialise again.
