Debut Delight

Blackburn ‘keeper David Raya was handed his debut for the club at Leeds recently and it couldn’t really have been a debut that went any better could it? The youngster made some fine saves and also kept a cleansheet at we won three-nil at Elland Road.

All in all a good job well done….

The 19-year-old joined Blackburn as a youngster – an even young youngster than he currently is, and has been waiting for this moment as all younger players do. He spoke on the Official Website following the game about finding out he was playing only on the morning of the game.

Finding out so soon to the game was something that he actually preferred as it didn’t give the nerves too much time to kick in, which they might have had he festered on it overnight, but having got his chance he’s now looking to challenge Jason Steele and Simon Eastwood for more chances.

‘I found out I was playing in the morning before the team meeting so it was a great feeling. It was better this way making your debut, because if you knew overnight then maybe you’d have a bad night.

‘I felt really good, the lads were compact, it is a great result and a great clean sheet. It is the chance I’ve been waiting for since I moved to the first team, I’ve played today so the next level is to carry on playing.’

The one drawback for Raya finding out that he would debut on the day, even though he concedes this was better, was the fact that it didn’t give him a chance to pre-warn his family so that they could get over from Spain to attend the game at Elland Road.

Raya knows he’ll have other chances though so they can come another time, but he’ll tell them all about his experience in the Blackburn first-team.

How much of a part do you think Raya’s going to play in our future?
