John O’Sullivan was handed his full Blackburn debut by Gary Bowyer on Tuesday and the youngster didn’t do his chances of more involvement going forward any harm, and not just as far as this season is concerned.

Bowyer opted to give O’Sullivan his chance and has told the Official Website he feels he ‘showed in flashes’ what he can do and what we could expect from him going forward but there’s still more to come!

What he would have also learned though is the Championship is a different level to League 1, where he enjoyed success during a loan spell with Barnsley, so there’s still a lot for him to learn going forward.

‘I thought he showed in flashes what he is capable of. I think he has learnt tonight that the power and the pace that he has, and has displayed in League One, at this level people are similar if not quicker and stronger.

‘So he’ll have learnt tonight that he has to be able to mix his game up, but we were pleased that we were able to give him his full debut. Now he’s got to build on that.’

David Raya was also handed a debuted recently and the suggestion from Bowyer is that others will also be given a chance too, as we look to see if they’ll be up to the challenge next season if called upon.

‘We did it with David Raya at Leeds the other week, we’ve done it with Johnno, and hopefully there might be one or two more youngsters that we are able to get in before the end of the season.

‘With the restrictions we are under, we need to see if they can handle the Championship because we need the players coming through the Academy. It is important that we are able to do that.’

Do you think O’Sullivan and/or other younger players will be involved again on Saturday at Ewood Park against Nottingham Forest?
