Rovers striker David Goodwillie is at the centre of a legal dispute over agent compensation with the player’s former agent insisting he is owed money from his transfer to Blackburn Rovers back in 2011.

The case is open with David Goodwillie disputing claims that he cut Mark Donaghy, his then agent, out of the £2.2m deal that took him from Dundee United (where he is now back on loan) to Ewood Park.

STV up in Scotland are reporting – ‘Mark Donaghy, who trades as Arena Sports Management, claims he was wrongly cut out of the transfer deal when Mr Goodwillie, 24, moved from the Dundee club to Blackburn Rovers in 2011.

Mr Goodwillie, who is contesting the action at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, asked a judge to throw the case out on a point of law. However, in a written ruling issued on Wednesday Lord Stewart said the case should continue.’

Amusingly the wrangle involves an alleged meeting at a local Burger King and both parties involved in the dispute are sticking to their guns over who is in the right – at least legally – with the case set to continue.

The STV report continued – ‘The court has heard that in March 2011 Mr Goodwillie signed a document authorising ‘Licensed Players’ Agent Mark Donaghy to act exclusively on my behalf.’ But the footballer’s legal team pointed out that the supposed agreement said nothing about money.

There is no basis for the lost commission claim, they insisted.

Mr Donaghy’s lawyers said the financial aspects of the deal were discussed over a Burger King meal near Stirling, although nothing was written down then.’

Classy stuff.
