Junior Girls’ Football – Come and get involved!

So, this isn`t directly Rovers related, but seeing as it`s about football within the Blackburn community, I`m hoping the audience is suitable!
In my spare time, I occasionally write for Vital Blackburn (I rarely manage to find the time!) but I also volunteer as a coach for a local girls football team.

Feniscowles and Pleasington JFC is a community based football club situated on Livsey Branch Road in Blackburn.

In June of this year, the club and several coaches got together and decided that they would set up a girl`s football team. Through word of mouth and advertising to local schools, the uptake was great, and instead of having just one team, we now have three! These are split into two Under 11s teams (for girls in school years 5 & 6) and one Under 12s team (school years 6 & 7).

All three teams currently play in the North Valley & Burnley Unity Youth League, and compete mostly with teams from East Lancashire.

The teams are really going well, but we are always looking to welcome new girls to our club at both ages, especially with the Under 12s, as their squad is a bit thin in number (but they are still undefeated in the league!).

Whether they are experienced players looking for a club, or girls who simply want to play football, learn, and have fun, everyone is welcome. After all, it`s all about enjoyment!

We are currently running training sessions on a Thursday evening between 6pm and 7pm at Witton Park AstroTurf for both age groups. Sessions are £1 and there`s no commitment if you just want to try it out! All the coaches have experience of teaching in primary schools and working with children in other settings.

So feel free to come down to see what we`re about. For more information feel free to drop me an email: joeain@hotmail.co.uk

Also, if you are thinking of coming down, it might be advisable to email with a contact number, so we can let you know if training is cancelled due to bad weather.

Cheers, and please spread the word!
