Lambert: We Should Have Had More

Blackburn Rovers had to make do with a point against Nottingham Forest on Monday evening at Ewood Park as the side couldn’t be separated in a 0-0 draw in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Many would argue the highlight of the LIVE match was Blackburn Legend Alan Shearer being presented to the crowd after he was honoured by having a road (Alan Shearer Way) named after him near Ewood.

Paul Lambert’s right in saying Rovers had the better of the chances (as we did), however, we couldn’t take these with a point (even if we needed all three really) not a bad point against Dougie Freedman’s side.

Lambert does feel we should’ve won though after dominating the match but he’s still pointing to the positive of collecting eleven points from the five matches he’s been in charge as the Rovers manager so far.

He told The Official Blackburn Rovers Website: “I thought we should have had more. The first half was the best 45 minutes since I’ve been here.

“We should have been a couple of goals up, we had Ben’s shot that hit the bar and I thought Jordan was really unlucky with his header.

“We dominated the game against a good side so from that point of view I’m delighted with the effort. 11 points from 15 is a massive return and I can’t fault the lads for the way they are playing and the effort they have given.

In my honest opinion this would’ve been a bigger point if it had been gained at The City Ground with Rovers the away side to Forest, however, it’s still a good point and I’m not too unhappy with it.

Lambert admitted the players tired towards the end, adding: “We tired before the end but that is normal playing two games in three days, but that was a big effort.

“A point in this league can be big at times.

The eight match unbeaten run might’ve started under Gary Bowyer, however, we’ve seen improvement under Lambert haven’t we and to be disappointed (as such) at only getting a point against Nottingham Forest shows this but with a lot of matches coming up we’ve still got a chance of ending the year strong and being in a much, much better position in the New Year than it looked likely a few weeks ago!!
