Despite a slow start, Rovers came out on top claiming three points from today’s match against Middlesbrough after Jason Lowe scored an absolute screamer from 25 yards.

Rovers took their time getting into the game leaving fans frustrated with the amount of balls given away and some slightly sloppy defending.

The 18th minute saw Tommy Spurr on the ground with an injury, he came back on but was substituted 3 minutes later for Josh Morris after it became apparent that he was struggling.

Rovers best chance of the first half came from Jordan Rhodes seven minutes before half time. A break initiated by Josh King resulted in Tom Cairney picking out Rhodes who served a downwards header which forced an excellent save from Boro’s keeper.

The second half saw both teams remain unchanged. Five minutes into the half Jason Lowe had an opportunity close to goal but his shot went well wide.

Shouts for what should have been a stonewall penalty rang out in Ewood Park in the 69th minute as Matt Kilgallon was pulled down in the area – however the referee decided not to award the penalty much to fans confusion and frustration.

The referees mistake was soon forgotten as six minutes later, the ball smashed into the back of the net courtesy of a 25 yard wonder strike taken by Jason Lowe. The ball thundered into the top right corner after King had picked out the midfielder, making it 1-0 to Rovers and Lowey’s first ever goal for the club on his 96th appearance.

The goalscorer proceeded to drop back into a centre back role as Kilgallon was subbed for Ben Marshall.

Marshall had a shot on goal three minutes before full time but his effort was stopped by the keeper. Minutes later substitute Chris Taylor puts the ball in for Rhodes who gets a touch on it but it went just wide.

Jason Lowe won a deserved man of the match, and Rovers took a massive three points which should give them some momentum before visiting Brighton on Saturday.
