Murphy confirms retirement

Former Rovers midfielder Danny Murphy has announced his retirement from football, with Ewood Park being the last professional club the former Liverpool, Charlton, Spurs and Fulham midfielder played for.

It was a sad end for a reasonably celebrated footballer with Murphy proving past his peak during his sole season at Rovers, being a target for the boo boys at the club and rarely seeming to give two hoots when things went to pot in a difficult season last time out for the club.

Murphy was hailed at the likes of Fulham, but in the Championship at Rovers he was merely picking up a wage and found himself training with the Reserves come the start of 2013.

His stint was that bad that he will be remembered as one of Rovers worst signings in recent memory.

Elsewhere though, he’ll be remembered as an accomplished footballer with a good Premier League pedigree.
