Not As Bad As Feared

Blackburn lost Tommy Spurr early on in the draw at QPR on Wednesday but, positively, Gary Bowyer has confirmed on rovers.co.uk his injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

This looked a nasty incident at the time, with Spurr left lying on the deck after taking a whack to the face in the opening minutes at Loftus Road. Eventually he had to be stretchered off.

Spurr, almost certainly, will miss Blackburn’s meeting with Charlton on Saturday but as his injury at QPR isn’t as bad as first feared he shouldn’t be out for too long.

Much more than a week, assuming no damage has been done to his jaw? That’s just an estimate, as if he’s sustained damage to his jaw this makes it different but I understand when a head injury is sustained, especially if you lose consciousness, new rules mean you’ve got to sit out for at least seven-days?

I could be wrong but I’m sure I read that somewhere recently!

Regardless, Rovers boss Bowyer was able to confirm despite being knocked out and being stretchered off in this two-all draw he was ‘up and about’ by the time the team travelled back to Blackburn with him travelling with them.

‘Fortunately he is up and about.

‘He has a massive lump on his jaw but thankfully he is okay and we’ll just have to monitor how it goes once the swelling has gone down.’
