Gary Bowyer is looking to add more faces to his squad before the new Championship campaign kicks off in a few weeks time, and it appears next on his list is Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing.

It is reported that Rovers have reached an agreement with the Merseyside club which would mean they would pay £1.75 million in instalments for the player’s services.

Spearing spent last season on loan at Bolton, picking up the player of the year award in the process. Bolton remain interested in bringing the player back to the Reebok Stadium, but are struggling to find the funds. (It seems they must be too busy counting their coppers for that Jordan Rhodes bid)

Rovers are still keen to reduce the wage bill before bringing Spearing through the door, with several players believed to be on Gary Bowyer’s hit list, including Mauro Formica, Bradley Orr, and bearded warrior Gael Givet.

Meanwhile, Rovers look set to complete the formalities on a deal to bring Alex Marrow back to the club. Bowyer worked with the midfielder during his previous spell at the club, and the 23 year old has flown with the first team squad for a week long training camp in Portugal.
