Big Sam is expecting a merry go round of the playing staff this summer as change is needed at Ewood Park.

Several players that have been inherited by Sam he is using but he doesn’t really want in the long run and players such as Andre Ooijer and Aaron Mokoena are out of contract.

Add into this the fact that the permanently injured Roque Santa Cruz thinks he is too good for us and there should be a few comings and goings this pre-season.

The Big Man, speaking to the L.E.T – ‘Football today means players stay less now than ever before and you have to accept that,’

‘As a manager, a big part of your business is doing far too much business that you don’t want to do really.

‘We are in a position where we always have to change more players than we really want to and that brings a lot of instability and makes your job so much harder than it should be, because players come and go almost at the drop of the hat.

‘When you are sitting in Sir Alex’s (Ferguson’s) spot or Arsenal’s spot or Chelsea or Liverpool, it is so much easier because it is only ever one or two changes.

‘But when you are where we are it is four or five.’

Sounds like were in for a bumpy one!

  • I think we need big change. This season has been a wake up call – some of our players are living off their reputations, or have been lurking on the bench for too long. It’s time to freshen things up and build for next season

  • I think we need players that are specifically sams men and are coming to play for him… that way results will improve and then everyone can work together as one – ensuring that this doesnt happen next season.

  • As long as he doesn’t bring in that thug I’ll be Ok. However, we do have some good players we want to keep – Nelson, Samba, Warnock, Emerton, Dunn, Tugay, Grella, Benni, Roberts, Santa, Derbs – Andrews hasn’t done too badly. Ooijer wants to leave – so its a case of keeping the good ones and buying a rightback!

  • the squad needs an over-haul, a lot of them are too comfortable, even at a team like Rovers, u should not be able to be complacent about your place, i know this takes money and there’s always some “her” of a club out there to steal the better players every yr BUT there should be enough quality to have competition in almost every position soon…..

  • Next season I forsee Robbo, Nelson, Samba, Warnock, Emerton,Dunn and Diouf as the only players who will be sleeping easy until the window closes. Oh and JR for sure.

  • i think ur bang on money….with the addition to that of Givet and the omision of benni who sam doesn’t really fancy due to his lack of work rate..

  • yep i agree with all this. and i would have emerton as a permanent right back, leave Diouf or someone new for the wing

  • Sam is a definate fan of grella…he did say a couple of weeks ago that he hopes grella will be fit to fight out the season, and lead the charge onwards for next seasons campaign

  • Yeah, we need BIG changes this summer and Big Sam will do this. Big Sam is going to make a lot of big decisions and changes, some of which we might not like, but most (if not all) will ultimately be in our best interests.

  • We do need a right-back anyway – Emerton is great – but we have no cover for him. Also, we don’t know how he’s going to be after his operation.

  • I think the only safe players are Samba, Nelson, Grella, Diouf and maybe Roberts, everyone else will be getting a squeaky bum syndrome……

  • I do think we need some big changes but listening to what Big Sam has said in the press recently, i dont think he’ll be axin too many…he has said that he doesn’t like wholesale changes…i think his hand will be forced with a few like Ooijer (agreed move), Simpson (on loan – not up2 it), Villenueva (not up2 it), Derbyshire (wanted in Greece), Gally (crap), Tugay (retiring), RSC (Penis)…I think that he will let any fringe players who express an interest leave (Mokoena, Khiz, etc) but he will keep as many as possible. A massive influx of younger, quicker players is my call….
