Rovers captain Chris Samba has today handed in a transfer request.

The request was made this afternoon and is designed to force a move from the club he has been at for over five years.

Samba is reported to be hurt with the way that promises that were made to him when he signed a new deal last January have not been kept and with him being in his late 20’s now he feels the time is ready to move on.

QPR, Spurs, PSG and apparently Manchester City have all registered an interest in the big centre back but no-one has yet come in with an acceptable bid for his services with Rovers rating Samba around the £12-15 million mark depending on who you believe.

Samba said in a statement – ‘I have today officially requested a transfer from Blackburn Rovers Football Club’

‘I have personally informed the owners, manager and executives at the club that I want to leave in this transfer window.

‘In my five years at Blackburn Rovers I have always given 100 per cent in every game I have played. I have had several opportunities to leave but I have always stayed.

‘I have decided now is the right time for me to pursue a new challenge and I have asked the club to respect my decision and allow me to leave.

‘I thank the fans for their support and I hope they feel I have served them and their club well.’

Can’t blame him for wanting to leave and at least he did show for training today which puts to bed the strike rumour.

But unless something drastic changes soon the board at Rovers will turn this request down.
