Rovers Managing Director Derek Shaw is on a personal one man mission to sort out the financial gap at Rovers, a few months after being named in court as the man allegedly responsible the club shelling out £2.25m to former manager Henning Berg.
Shaw wouldn’t be drawn on the sort of figures that Rovers are rumoured to be paying out each month with expenditure far outweighing income, but the former Preston chairman did confess that the club needs a financial overhaul this summer – with the likes of Danny Murphy, Nuno Gomes and Dickson Etuhu all earning bumper wages that they are struggling to justify on the field.
And with the Financial Fair Play laws being introduced in the coming seasons it is imperative Blackburn Rovers sort their house out…
Shaw spoke with the Lancashire Telegraph and stated – “I personally don`t think it`s right to talk about finance because that`s done at the AGM, but we are losing a lot of money.
“We`re one of the cheapest matchday entries in the country and the gates are not big.
“The owners have supported that loss but it`s not just a matter of having owners supporting the losses, there`s now a rule, and you`ve got to bring your house more in order.
“That`s not easy because of contracts.
“Some of them from the Premier League from a few years ago and some contracts that were done a year ago. We have to try to tidy that up.
“The owners are not looking to sell the better players, but we would not be telling the truth to say we are not trying to move certain players on.”
Cryptic stuff Derek, perhaps the more pressing question is ‘are you the man to successfully oversee this restructure?.’
