Bowyer’s Rhodes Delight

Jordan Rhodes extending his Blackburn Rovers contract has given a boost to everyone hasn’t it.

Was Rhodes ever really likely to leave Ewood Park amidst speculation that an £8million offer from Norwich City had come in that saw us put a £10million price tag on his head?? I wasn’t sure but now I’m fairly confident that this wasn’t ever realistically in his mind and obviously wasn’t the clubs preferred option of he wouldn’t have got a new contract.

Maybe Rhodes managed to get his improved two-year extension to his existing contract (taking him through until 2019) off the back of this but this is a great PR move by Rovers and will carry move favours with the supporters.

Gary Bowyer was (as you’d expect) delighted to get the jewel in our crown tied down to a long-term contract, as we all are.

The Rovers Manager told the Official Website: “I’m delighted to get it done. It has been going on for a number of months so to finally get it all sorted is great news for the football club.

“We look forward to him doing what he does very well and that is scoring goals again.

“We felt that his all round game improved again last year, he knows he needs to improve further and he’s willing to do so it makes him a better player.“

Confidence was high as to what Rovers could achieve this season before JR extended his contract, however, this will grow further as it shows commitment from Venky’s and a long-term vision (something that has often be questioned under them, shame about there kit launch this week to undo some of this!!)

If the Scottish International can continue to build on his partnership with Rudy Gestede and keep scoring at the rate he had his Premier League ambition will be achieved at Ewood and sooner rather than later won’t it??
