Kean ready to use Singh as an excuse

The Rovers circus is continuing at full pace with Shebby Singh’s weekend comments still ringing thick in the ears and Steve Kean not happy with what he heard during and in the aftermath of the Q+A session where Singh’s controversial comments reared their head.


Steve Kean, never one to shy away from snogging the microphone himself, believes the comments made at the expense of Morten Gamst Pedersen have been disruptive and interrupted an important week with the Championship kick off only 2 days away.


And Kean told BBC Radio Lancashire – ‘It’s brought about a lot of disruption amongst the players in a vital week.


‘They were very disappointed with the comments.’


‘Most of the players have come to me individually and it was poignant that they’ve publicly backed Morten.’


“The lads certainly weren’t happy about it. We’re together, we stand by each other’s side and we back the manager”


Asked more about Singh’s comments and his subsequent public apology, Kean reinforced he remained unconvinced by Singh’s follow up statement and doubted the true intentions of what was published in the Lancashire Telegraph.


Kean continued – ‘I don’t really think it was an apology, there was an apology about feelings being hurt, but I don’t really see a retraction being in there.’


Elsewhere, the sentiment seems to have been shared amongst the players at the club with Danny Murphy either opting to or being nominated to speak on behalf of the players.


Danny Murphy added – ‘Speaking on behalf of all the players, I think everybody was hugely disappointed with what was said.


‘The lads certainly weren’t happy about it. We’re together, we stand by each other’s side and we back the manager.


‘We’re at the start of what will hopefully be a successful season. We’re looking forward to getting going and that spoiled it a bit.


‘I think it’s been dealt with, by the players anyway. We’ve made our line in the sand and we’ll move on. Dwelling on negative situations for too long won’t benefit us.’
