Jordan Rhodes, scorer of two of the Blackburn goals in the win at the weekend, has admitted to rovers.co.uk he, and the remainder of the squad, were relieved to finally get the Championship season up and running with a first three-points of the campaign.

Rhodes feels Rovers have deserved more for their efforts this season than have so far come so said it was ‘nice to get the three points’ against Charlton with it a ‘weight off our shoulders.’

The striker did admit he probably should have scored more than the one he did in the first half but was also happy with the one he did get, even if Grant Hanley might not have been, with the second easing the tension.

‘It is nice to get the three points, and winning on a Saturday – there is no better feeling, it is a real weight off our shoulders.

‘It was nice to go in at the break 1-0 up. I personally should have done better with a couple but the keeper made a couple of good saves so credit to him, but it was nice to go in in front.

‘The first goal I managed to get something on it, Grant wasn’t best pleased, and with the second Tom Lawrence did terrifically well and I managed to just toe-poke it.

‘The points haven’t rewarded us with the play that we’ve had so it is nice to get the win.’

Luck hasn’t, for Rhodes, always been with Rovers so far this season either! Then again, what’s that saying? You create your own luck….

But for a little more luck though things could have started better, he feels then again despite the frustration this caused him on a personal level and the club as a whole he knows this is ‘part and parcel’ of the game with him adding he’s hopeful of some of this going forward.

‘It has been frustrating but that is part and parcel of football. There have been times when we have scored and it hasn’t been allowed. Then there’s been disallowed goals that have been allowed for the opposition.

‘So I know it has been that unlucky story at the start of the season for us, but hopefully through the season we’ll get the luck.’

Frustration on a personnel level has been the case due to his ongoing ankle injury this season, suffered firstly in pre-season and then early in the campaign making it a bit of a ‘stop start’ one for him.

Again though injuries ‘happen in football’ and he’s ‘feeling better by the day’ and ‘getting stronger and getting fitter and sharper’ with his own improvement always coming.

Rhodes also said he’s keen on us adding to this win, starting with the game at Hull, linked with him last season of course, at the KC Stadium on Saturday.

‘It would be nice to have that snowball effect now, we’ve Hull next week and they are a very tough proposition full of very good players.

‘But it will be up to us to try and go there and put our best performance on and get something from the game.’
