Nice to hear Rovers haven’t wasted the international break with the club continuing to bring and assess trialists, the most recent of which is Robbie Simpson.

Simpson is not particularly renowned in the Championship as he has mainly plied his trade in the lower leagues but that hasn’t stopped manager Gary Bowyer for bringing him in for a quick look.

‘We’re just having a look at him,’ Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph.

‘I know one or two clubs are also looking at him so it’s a chance to assess him in training.

‘He looks fit and he’ll continue to train with us for a couple more days and maybe next week as well. Then we’ll see how it goes.’

In slightly more desirable news, Bowyer also confirmed during a BBC Radio Lancashire appearance that work is already up and running to extend the stay of youngster Tom Cairney who has been impressive so far during his loan spell from Hull.

Cairney is initially on loan from Hull only till January but anyone with eyesight can see the lad has a bit of talent about him, so enquiries are already off and running to make his stay longer at Ewood Park.

Bowyer added – ‘He’s a very good, technical player and we were fortunate we were able to get him when we did.

‘I think everyone would agree that they would want Tom Cairney to stay at our football club not just until May, but for a long time.

‘That’s something we’ll be working toward, that’s for sure.’
